Here is the CMT Uptime check phrase

RDA: Open-end Response Text Files

Text files of open-end responses represent either transcriptions from paper questions or CAI-entered texts recorded by interviewers during administration of the survey.

Time Series RDA open-end response text files

For 1984-1992 Time Series studies, texts of open-end responses are available for only some questions. These texts represent transcriptions produced in 1993 from archived paper questionnaires. No texts are currently available for the 1994 Time Series study. The 1984-1992 transcription files are unredacted and made available with systematic substitution of study case ids by replacement ids generated as random values. Users must inquire if specific open-end texts are available as restricted data for Time Series studies 1984-1992, however fulfillment of requests may be subject to the limitations described for RDA files which have not already been pre-prepared.

For 1996-2004 Time Series studies, texts of open-end responses are available for many questions and were recorded by interviewers during CAI survey administration. Available 1996-2004 texts are unredacted and can be provided with systematic substitution of study case ids by replacement ids generated as random values. Users must inquire if specific open-end texts are available as restricted data for Time Series studies 1996-2004, however fulfillment of requests may be subject to the limitations described for RDA files which have not already been pre-prepared.

Available open-end response texts for Time Series studies 2008 and later are available redacted and downloadable from the ANES web site, via the link provided on the Study Page for each study.

Non-Time Series RDA open-end response text files

Users must inquire if specific open-end texts are available as restricted data for any non-Time Series studies, however fulfillment of requests would be subject to the limitations described for RDA files which have not already been pre-prepared.
