Question Text:

1962-1998,2004: "We are interested in how people are getting along financially these days.
Would you say that (1962,1966-1974: you [and your family]; 1976 and later: you [and your family living here]) are better off or worse off financially than you were a year ago."
2000-2002: "We are interested in how people are getting along financially these days. Would you say that you (and your family [2000 FACE-TO-FACE ONLY: living here]) are better off, worse off, or just about the same financially as you were a year ago?"

Note:

2012 and 2016 data are for the combined (face-to-face and internet) sample.

In the 2012 face-to-face instrument, 'the same' was a volunteered response. In the 2012 Web instrument, 'the same' did not appear onscreen as an available category.
