ANES Announcement: Full Release of the ANES 2024 Time Series Study
August 8, 2025
Dear American National Election Studies (ANES) User Community,
The Full Release of the ANES 2024 Time Series Study is now available! The data and documentation can be downloaded from the ANES website at: https://electionstudies.org/data-center/2024-time-series-study/
The ANES 2024 Time Series Study design involves a nationally representative probability sample, pre-election interviews and post-election reinterviews, and a mixed-mode data collection consisting of face-to-face, web, video, phone, and paper-and-pencil interviews. You can read more about the study design and the questions that were asked in the User Guide and Codebook.
The Full Release contains 5,521 respondents:
- A fresh in-person sample consisting of 1,042 pre-election interviews and 925 post-election re-interviews
- A fresh web sample consisting of 2,308 pre-election interviews and 1,969 post-election re-interviews
- An extension of the 2016-2020 ANES Panel consisting of 2,171 pre-election interviews and 2,070 post-election re-interviews with people who participated in the ANES in both 2016 and 2020
The study also administered a brief questionnaire to spouses and cohabiting partners of individuals in the fresh in-person and fresh web samples. Where respondents had a participating spouse or partner, this data is attached to their record.
Data from the General Social Survey (GSS) sample were collected alongside the ANES survey, which will be released in a separate file at a later date.
This is the full release of the 2024 Time Series Study dataset and the third release overall. The previous two releases were preliminary and did not contain all the variables, processing, cleaning, and documentation that are included in this release. Users are advised to compare their preliminary release results with the current release to determine if the changes have any impact on their analyses.
This full release may also include error corrections and edits to improve accuracy and usability. If you find errors or have comments or questions about the data, please communicate with ANES staff by writing to [email protected].
Thank you for your use of the ANES!
