Study Highlights
The ANES 2010-2012 Evaluations of Government and Society Study (EGSS) is a series of surveys conducted over the Internet in 2010-2012 using samples representative of the national population of adult citizens. Each survey has a separate sample; this is not a panel study. The chief aims of the surveys were to measure public opinion in advance of the 2012 election and to pilot-test new instrumentation. Topics include policy issues, the economy, and attitudes toward and evaluations of President Obama and other political figures. Survey questions for the EGSS came from the public proposal process on the ANES Online Commons.
The EGSS 1 data were collected October 8-19, 2010, from 1,189 respondents, with an estimated response rate (AAPOR RR3) of 2.6 percent or less and an estimated completion rate of 60 percent.
The EGSS 2 data were collected from May 11 through June 1, 2011, from 1,209 respondents, with an estimated response rate (AAPOR RR3) of about 2.5 percent.
The EGSS 3 data were collected from December 7 to 13, 2011, from 1,262 respondents, with an estimated response rate (AAPOR RR3) of about 2.5 percent.
The EGSS 4 data were collected from February 18 to 23, 2012, from 1,253 respondents, with an estimated response rate (AAPOR RR3) of about 2.5 percent.
