Study Design Highlights
The 1982 ANES is a traditional time series study, conducted face-to-face and constituting a representative national sample drawn using area probability sampling. The study was also conducted, however, as one component of a methodological experiment, which is represented in its entirety in the 1982 Methods Comparison Study and in which interviews adapted from the ANES 1982 were also administered by telephone to respondents selected by random digit dialing (RDD).
Administration of the ANES 1982 post-election interview began immediately after the November 2 elections, and continued until January 31, 1983. The average interview length was 72 minutes, and 1,418 completions were yielded from 1,960 eligible in the sample.
